CEAL teams reached much higher proportions of Hispanic or Latino and Black or African American individuals compared to the U.S. population as a whole and compared to the demographics of their focus communities.
Engaging CBOs and other partners located in and trusted by communities was expected to help CEAL teams reach racially and ethnically diverse communities. CEAL regional teams’ partners helped collect surveys from community members. Therefore, the unweighted demographics of survey respondents were used as an overall indicator of the populations that CEAL teams could reach. Although all survey respondents may not have participated directly in CEAL activities, these results show that CEAL teams were able to reach and engage diverse communities. For example, 19% of the U.S. population and 27% of CEAL focus counties were Hispanic or Latino, whereas 44% of CEAL Common Survey respondents were Hispanic or Latino.
